There are many lakes within 20 minutes drive of the town including nearby Lake Ruataniwha (just 2 minutes away) which are watersport playgrounds. The Trout fishing in Lakes Ohau and Benmore is also excellent. Recommended daytrips include driving up the west side of Lake Ohau, visiting Omarama , Lake Tekapo and the Mt Cook National Park.
