Lake Taupo Attractions
Lake Taupo and the Tongariro National Park offers many rewarding and memorable visitor attractions for you to choose from. The Lake offers plenty of fun activities - swimming, fishing (regarded as the best Rainbow Trout fishery in the world) and boat cruises. Another recommended attraction is to Kayak or boat to the Maori Rock Carvings (pictured above) at Mine Bay. Standing 10 metres tall and only accessible by boat, the carvings are trully impressive and a great way to enjoy a sunny day on the Lake.
Further south, the Tongariro National Park offers a huge variety of outdoor adventures including some great walks such as the Tongariro Crossing (an exhilerating 8 - 9 hour hike spanning the length of Mount Tongariro), Skiing on Mt Ruapehu (Whakapapa and Turio Ski Areas), Mountain Biking and White Water Rafting.
