Fox Glacier / Franz Josef Glacier Attractions

Obviously, visiting the Glaciers should be the first activity on your list (especially if the weather is fine). A relatively easy walk will get you up close to the terminal face of both Glaciers. If you are feeling a little more adventurous, take a guided hike / walk on to Fox or Franz Josef Glacier. This is a great way to really explore the rugged beauty of these spectacular wonders of nature.
Fox Guides will guide you onto the ice via a secret track through bush regenerating from previous glacial advances & share with you their knowledge of the geology of the area, whilst you walk on the glacier viewing its stunning ice features.
Franz Josef Glacier Guides will take you deep in the heart of the glacier where you can squeeze through tight blue crevasses, slide through ice caves or even ‘franz shuffle’ down near vertical walls of ice.
There are also plenty of great walks (most are less than 2 hours) in the area where you can enjoy stunning views of the Glaciers.
